Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Collector’s Edition Preview

Messagepar Jannickz » 16 juin 2021, 08:42

As announced during the Final Fantasy XIV Digital Fan Fest 2021 Keynote, Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker will be released in a number of Collector's Editions. The thing is, depending on what you want and what platform you are on, you have to buy for different platforms.

Unfortunately, the "which platform" also applies to PC, as Final Fantasy XIV is split between the official launcher and the Steam version. Depending on which version you are using, you will need a different one. But don't worry - I've given you an overview of what's included in each Collector's Edition and what to buy, depending on whether you're playing through the Launcher or Steam.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Collector's Edition
First, let's talk about what you actually get in the Collector's Edition. The biggest of these is the Physical Collector's Edition, which has a variety of beautiful physical items for you to get your hands on.

So! In addition to the glossy "art box" itself, is there the beautiful Amano Endwalker artwork? You will receive a Paladin mockup with "Passage of Arms," a range of art prints covering everything from 1.0 art to Endwalker art, an art frame, an azem crystal lapel pin, and a Loporrit mini plush .

The in-game ffxiv items of the Collector's Edition are a clockwork Porom minion (from Final Fantasy IV), an Arion mount and a Death Scythe from Final Fantasy XI for the new Reaper job.

Finally, there are pre-order bonuses: a Clockwork Palom Vassal and Menphina Earrings, which bring up to 30% bonus experience up to level 80. Since these will be available before launch, they should be a great way to level up more Endwalker jobs before they appear. These are available regardless of which version of the game you purchase as long as you pre-order.

It's also worth noting that Endwalker won't have physical discs. This is a digital download only. Given the digital nature of the game, the regular major patches, and the fact that over 80% of players have purchased the digital version, this is unlikely to lead to many problems.

Which version should you buy?
So, let's tackle this question. Which Collector's Edition should you buy based on the platform you are using and the content you want?

The big monster is Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Collector's Edition. This contains the game code for the Windows and Mac versions of the game, all physical and digital items, and can be ordered from the Square Enix Store on May 15th (starting today) from 12 noon UK daylight saving time. That's 7 a.m. EST if I can get the time zone conversion right now. So, if you're using the game's official launcher and you want it all, then it's time to get it.

However, when you're using Steam (or Playstation 4 or 5) it gets a little confusing.

Ff14 Endwalker Collector's Edition

If you are using Steam and want to have both digital and physical items, the first thing you need to do is purchase the Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Collector's Box. This contains all physical items, but not the game or digital items. After that, you can purchase the Digital Collector's Edition on Steam (or PS4 / PS5, I assume) to receive the game and in-game items. When you don't want in-game items? Well, you can just buy the collectible box and the regular version of the game.

Likewise, if you want in-game items rather than FF14 gil in-game, you can get the digital Collector's Edition from the Square Enix Store or via Steam, depending on whether you are playing via the FFXIV launcher or via Steam. Finally, if you don't care about any of the bonus items? Just buy the Endwalker Standard Edition.

So yes, the first step is to pay attention to whether or not you are playing the game through Steam. This is the one thing that can seriously affect your purchasing decision.

Apparently, the digital Collector's Edition is now available for pre-order, while the Collector's Box and Collector's Edition will go on sale approximately 7 hours after this article is written.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker will be available on November 23rd. If you don't have any of the expansion packs, don't worry: Endwalker comes with Stormblood and Shadowbringers, so all you need is the base game and Endwalker to access all of its content.
