I’ve seen a lot\u00a0of people asking themselves how they will manage to paint every Zombicide’s zombies. Well, I took the bull by the horns and I decided to paint my game the fast way ! Will it look good ? You’ll be the judge !
\nIt will take around 24 hours to paint all the figures\u00a0. Let’s start this tutorial, brought to you by the worst painter of GangeekStyle’s board\u00a0! Don’t forget that I’m not a pro, so please forgive me if I’m making some mistake and comment this post to let us know what can be improved.<\/p>\n

The equipment\u00a0:<\/p>\n

– A paint spray of white\u00a0undercoat.<\/p>\n

– An airbrush\u00a0(in order to go faster, it will take a lot of time to do all the work with a paintbrush).<\/p>\n

– In addition to your paints, you’ll need some\u00a0Tamiya X-27 (for the blood), some\u00a0Tamiya X-25(for toxic zombies skin), some\u00a0Pince August 733 (for the inmates outfits), some\u00a0black Wash Game Color 73.201 (to darken), some\u00a0Agrax Earthshade Citadel (for some effects and wash drawings) and some\u00a0Prince August 951 white (for small dry brushings).<\/p>\n

– Blu-tack.<\/p>\n

– A spray of mat varnish.<\/p>\n

– A tube of wood glue.<\/p>\n

– Sand.<\/p>\n

– A hairdryer.<\/p>\n

When I have painted my first box of Zombicide\u00a0and when I have read Remy Tremblay’s advices, I have understood a few things\u00a0:<\/p>\n

– there is no need to trim the figures because they will be manipulated a lot by the players.<\/p>\n

– there is no need to do a lot of color swapping, the zombies don’t last long on the board so color mixity is not an issue.<\/p>\n

My first attempt, painted in a week end!<\/p><\/div>\n

This time I made everything strict to the point in order to save a lot of time. But I also tried not to make the figures look too crappy.\u00a0Zombicide, is a serious thing!<\/p>\n

The to-do list!<\/span><\/h2>\n

#1 Put some wood glue on the bases.\u00a0<\/strong>You can add water to the glue in order to\u00a0make things easier. \"1\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#2 Soak the figure in the sand.<\/strong>\u00a0Don’t make the same mistake as I did, I took some wet sand.\u00a0<\/strong> \"2\"<\/a> \"3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#3 Stick the figures on a large support with Blu-tack.\u00a0<\/strong>They won’t fly away when you’ll use the paint spray. I chose to stick them on a brick of fruit juice.<\/p>\n

#4 Put a white undercoat.<\/strong> \"7\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#5 Put the main color with the airbrush.<\/strong>\u00a0If you do not own one you can do it with a paintbrush\u00a0(it will only take more time). I wanted my berserkers to be dark. I used\u00a0Whisky Opaque<\/em>\u00a0from Pro-Color. For the toxics I used\u00a0Vert Pr\u00e9<\/em>.\u00a0\"8\"<\/a> \u00a0 \"10\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#6 Darken the bases with the airbrush. <\/strong>For the berserkers I used\u00a0Terre de Sienne Opaque<\/em>\u00a0from\u00a0Pro-Color. For the toxics, I used\u00a0Vert Bouteille<\/em>\u00a0from Pro-Color blended with black.<\/p>\n

#7\u00a0Lighten the top of the figures with white<\/strong>. \"11\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#8 Put a green washdrawing on the toxics.\u00a0<\/strong>\"14\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#9 Put an Agrax Earthshade Citadel washdrawing on every figures\u00a0<\/strong>(even the toxics). Don’t forget to use your hairdryer to save time.\"15\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#10 Paint the main colors with a paintbrush.\u00a0<\/strong>(jeans, inmate’s outfit, hats\u00a0etc …)\"16\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#11 Operate a little dry brushing with\u00a0white Prince August 951 on every figures.\u00a0<\/strong>This step is hard, you need to highlight the volumes without doing too much.<\/p>\n

#12 Put an\u00a0Agrax Earthshade Citadel washdrawing on every figures.<\/strong><\/p>\n

#13 Darken the hollows, the hair and the face of the figures with Wash Game Color black\u00a073.201.<\/strong>\u00a0Don’t put too much of it, it’s only to strenghten the appearence of the figure. During this step,\u00a0paint the bases and the sand in black, then do a dark grey dry brush and a light grey dry brush on the sand.\u00a0Paint the bases’ contour in black.\u00a0\"17\"<\/a> \"18\"<\/a> \"19\"<\/a> \"20\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#14 Stick the figures on a large support with Blu-tack<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

#15 Apply a layer of mat varnish spray on every\u00a0figures.\u00a0<\/strong>This varnish will protect the figures during the play and will allow you to apply\u00a0the Tamiya paintings safely. \"21\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#16 Put some\u00a0Tamiya X-25 on the toxics’ skin (without shaking the pot). <\/strong>You should have a yellow layer on the top of the pot and a green one on the bottom, put the yellow.<\/p>\n

#17 Put some\u00a0Tamiya X-27 in different places to simulate blood. <\/strong>Don’t put too much of it!<\/p>\n

#18 Lighten the inmate’s outfits with\u00a0Prince August 733 painting.\u00a0<\/strong>It was a test and it worked very well to spot them easily\u00a0on the board. \"23\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#19 Put some strokes\u00a0of\u00a0white for the teeth and the eyes. \u00a0<\/strong>It’s very important, if you miss that step your figures will be ugly. People always watch figure’s face first.<\/p>\n

#20 Align the figures by families.\u00a0<\/strong>This way you should work the details without forgetting a spot on a figure.\"25\"<\/a><\/p>\n

You should have painted all your zombies. The point is to obtain a nice mass effect render. I hope this tutorial is clear enough.<\/p>\n
